Filler Prep Guide: What to Do Before Your Lip or Facial Filler Appointment

Filler Prep 101: Before You Sit in the Chair, Here’s What You Need to Know

Think of filler prep as setting the stage for your best results. What you do (and don’t do) in the days before your appointment can make a real difference in how smoothly your treatment goes and how quickly you recover. Save this post so you’re ready when your appointment gets closer!

AVOID BLOOD THINNERS

Skip aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and alcohol for 10 days prior to your appointment (if medically safe to do so). Why? These substances thin the blood, which increases the likelihood of bruising and swelling. The more proactive you are about this, the cleaner your results tend to look right away.

NO DENTAL WORK OR VACCINES

Avoid dental work and vaccines in the two weeks prior to your filler appointment. Dental procedures can introduce bacteria near injection sites, and vaccines can trigger an immune response that may affect how filler settles. When in doubt, let your injector know and we’ll plan accordingly.

STAY HYDRATED

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated skin = better filler integration and glow. Your skin literally performs better when it’s hydrated from the inside — the filler integrates more smoothly and your results look more natural.

SCHEDULE SMART

Don’t plan fillers right before a big event or vacation. Swelling and bruising can take a few days to settle. As a general rule, allow at least two weeks between your appointment and any major event where you want to look your best.

EAT BEFOREHAND

Have a light meal before your appointment. Being comfortable helps you relax and avoid lightheadedness during treatment. Coming in on an empty stomach can make some people feel faint — a light snack goes a long way.

MANAGE EXPECTATIONS

Bring inspo photos — but trust your injector’s expertise and education. Natural, balanced results are always better than overdone. Inspiration photos are a wonderful communication tool. The goal is always to use them as a starting point, not a blueprint, since every face is different.

ARRIVE WITH CLEAN SKIN

No makeup, skincare products, or SPF on treatment areas. This keeps your skin sterile and lowers infection risk. If you need to wear makeup to your appointment, no worries — we can cleanse the area before treatment.

KNOW YOUR MEDICATIONS + HISTORY

Share your full medical history and any medications or supplements with your injector. Safety always comes first. There’s no such thing as too much information here — the more we know, the better we can care for you.

And don’t forget your Arnica! Taking Arnica tablets before and after your appointment can help minimize bruising. Ask me about it at your consultation.
